Shichimi togarashi is Japan’s iconic seven-spice citrus and chili pepper seasoning. The ingredients vary from region to region, with this special blend being made from a base of togarashi (a type of red chili pepper), chinpi (sun-dried mandarin orange peel), and dried aosa seaweed for salty umami. Hemp, poppy, and sesame seeds add a mildly nutty flavor, while sansho pepper provides its signature citrus heat.
