THE IMPERFECT LANTERN

On that Mid-Autumn afternoon, grandfather sat in the front yard, splitting bamboo and shaping it into a rabbit lantern. Watching intently, his grandchild asked, "Why don't we buy one at the market, Grandpa? The rabbit's ears aren't round, and the red cellophane is wrinkled—it won't look nice!"

Gently smoothing the cellophane, Grandfather carefully drew the rabbit's eyes and replied, "Some things don't need to be perfect to be precious."

That evening, he lit a small candle inside. The light shone through the red cellophane, illuminating the rabbit lantern with a beautiful, warm glow. Cheering with joy, the child hugged the lantern and ran to the end of the alley, joining the sound of lion dance drums and playing with friends.

 A curious friend asked:

"Who made that for you?"

Clutching the lantern close to their chest, the child proudly answered:

"My grandpa made it just for me."

Though the rabbit's ears were not perfectly round and the cellophane remained slightly wrinkled, that lantern shone brighter than any other on the street that night.

Many years later, the child still fondly remembered that rabbit lantern.

For it was not merely made of bamboo and cellophane, but built from time, loving hands, and a beautiful cultural tradition quietly passed down through every moonlit season.
