How to make dashi soup stock – Place 1 unopened packet in 400ml (1 ¾ cups) of water in a saucepan, slowly bring it to a boil on medium heat, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2 minutes. Remove a packet and you have flavorful stock ready to use. For richer stock, use 2 packets in 500ml (2 cups) of water.
Recommended usage includes: miso soup, noodle broth, simmered dish (Nimono), steamed custard (Chawanmushi), savory rolled omelet (Dashimaki Tamago), Japanese mixed rice (Takikomi Gohan)… anything that calls for Japanese traditional dashi.
You can also use it as seasoning – Tear packet and add dashi powder directly to your favorite dishes for a delightful boost of umami.
Perfect for: Japanese hamburger steak (Hambagu), savory pancake (Okonomiyaki), stir-fried rice and noodles, pasta, seafood, etc.
