Japan Hokkaido Wild Kanto Spiky Sea Cucumber 16 oz
Description
Royal Seafood USA presents wild Japanese Kanto spiky sea cucumber — often called the "gem of the sea." Harvested from the cold, pristine waters off Japan's Kanto region, these sea cucumbers grow slowly in low temperatures, resulting in an exceptionally dense, firm texture and a high spiked exterior. Because of the short harvesting window and naturally low yield, Kanto sea cucumber is regarded as one of the most prized and valuable sea cucumbers in the world.
This small-size grade offers about 85-90 pieces per pound. The dried body is hard and upright with densely packed spines. Once properly rehydrated, it expands 12–13 times its dry weight — the flesh becomes thick, glossy, and translucent, with a signature texture that is silky yet springy and pleasantly chewy.
Culinary Uses
- Braised Sea Cucumber with Scallion (Cong Shao): The iconic luxury dish — slow-braised in scallion, oyster sauce, and rich stock.
- Sea Cucumber & Millet Congee: Sliced into warm millet porridge with ginger and goji; elegant, comforting, restaurant-style breakfast.
- Buddha Jumps Over the Wall: A hero ingredient alongside abalone, fish maw, and scallops.
- Red-Braised with Pork Belly: Thick flesh absorbs braising sauce without breaking apart.
- Steamed Egg Custard: Diced sea cucumber over silky egg custard, steamed 8 minutes.
